We want to give a heads up that we’re going to adjust the price of paintRack on the Google Play store by $2 (to $4.99 USD) on February 14, 2019. We wanted to give some advanced warning in case people on the fence want to act now at the lower price.
Let’s see if we can answer some common questions we foresee with this blog post!
Does this affect me if I’ve already bought the in-app purchase to unlock the app?
Nope, if you bought it previously you still have it forever. This does not affect you.
Why are you increasing the price?
The app development (including maintaining the database) takes quite a bit of time and we think we provide value way, way above the few dollars it costs. If we save you from buying a couple of duplicate bottles, you’ve already recouped the app cost!
When we first released paintRack, we always intended the initial price was an early-access to help us fund development while we sorted out design and feedback from users.
Wait, what have you done for us recently?
We were just reviewing all the updates we’ve done since the initial release. If you’ve been with us from the beginning several years ago, we’ve added a lot!
When we first released we only had support for 4 manufacturers (Citadel, Vallejo, P3, and Reaper) and about 1500 paints. Now we’re sitting at around 9000 bottles and we’ve added:
- Abteilung 502
- AK Interactive
- AMMO by MIG Jimenez
- Andrea Color
- Army Painter (Warpaints)
- Badger Minitaire
- Battlefront (Colours of War)
- Coat d’Arms
- Forge World
- FW Inks
- Green Stuff World
- Jo Sonja’s
- Mission Models
- Model Masters
- Mr. Hobby (Gunze)
- Secret Weapon
- Wargames Foundry
We’ve also added a ton of new features like:
- Wish list
- Rapid scanning
- Library backup
- Notes on sets and subsets
- Sharing sets
- Color matching from camera
- Color matching from RGB
- Library megaFilter
- …and countless fixes and improvements
All for just a one-time purchase. Pretty good deal, right?
Does this mean development is complete on Android?
By no means. We will continue to keep the database up to date and work on features as they arise as before. The one-time in-app purchase will get you the same benefits as before.
Where is the iOS version!?
We hope to begin on this development in earnest this year. We have to balance our own family and life responsibilities with the Android development so it’s always a battle to get it done.
